Today in Rostock, Germany, Bono, Bob Geldof, Youssou N'Dour and a host of international musicians evoked the lyrics of the Beatles and Bob Marley to urge world leaders to aid impoverished countries. At the 'Voices Against Poverty' concert, musicians led the crowd in sing-alongs of 'You Never Give Me Your Money' and 'Redemption Song.' Organized by Geldof, the concert's mission is to raise awareness of world poverty amid the G8 summit, being held in nearby Heiligendamm.Tune in to rebroadcast now.

could there be a faker person in the world than bono? Please. It's the people that make you aware EVERY TIME they make any societal contribution that don't truly care. How about being humble for a change bono. Show you care by not trying to benefit yourself every time

I am curious, When the unexpected U2 appearances happen, does Bono and the gang donate any of the record sales to the cause ?

I never do this 'comment' stuff, but I've always been a big fan of Bono. I'm about his age, and happily married, but I've always wanted to have about 30 minutes (or more) to sit down and talk with him. I'm not a huge fan of 'stars', but he's seems like a real interesting person to meet. (Plus, he got to talk with Pope JP II, and that alone makes him a very special man! :) )
Maybe he'll see this, and take me up on it. Stranger things have happened.

I also not a fan of famous people and NONE of
them are any role models.
I do make an exception with BONO
Somebody has to speak up and do something, NO Goverment is going to step in or is committed to do anything. Bono points it out to the Goverment's
and it's people of the world, for that alone i am thankfull.
Rickat 6-07-2007
I have never used any of these famous people
as a role model(NOBODY should).
Bono sticks out amongst all these celebreties.
He point's out to the world's Goverment's and
it's people what is needed . if it where not for HIM nobody would give a damm. For that alone i
admire him. So what if makes money along the way
look at all the other Biggies out there making a killing and NOT giving a damm, he does.

U2 have been a favorite of mine since the early 80's. The fact that they are Irish and that Bono has been so vocal in championing the rights and causes of the world just makes them that much more endearing. One could say he does it for the attention but truly, he is tireless and lends his voice to so many charities that you begin to believe that he truly does want to help.
This is one band that the fame and stardom didn't kill and gladly it didn't go to their heads.

I just love this guy...and the band....and every year I incorporate in my teaching what he does around the world with leaders to stop poverty, and I introduce the students to his lyrics because he is so spiritual, political, and his songs hold so much passion in them about many topics! I just love what he does, and how he goes about doing it. Not only does he have a phenomenal singing voice....but a phenomenal heart. He defines COOL! He's truly a RADICAL, and not many people have an ounce of a clue of how much work he does behind the scenes....way before all these other phony celebrities started doing the same thing that he has been doing for YEARS before anyone ever knew about it. He's been with the same group since he was 14 years old in middle school, has been married to the same woman for over 20 years, and has 4 children....and his rock group is still ......rockin' !

how does U2 ever have the nerve to criticize the beatles. Bono is a moron and U2 sucks. its wonderful that they're urging world leaders to held impoverished countries, but they are effin stupid because the beatle's message to world leaders was peace, but to continue humanitarian aide
U2 sucks

I might add that I have not always agreed with all of U2's, Bono's and their managements endeavors (ClearChannel, outsourcing, etc) but I will say that Bono's activism is admirable in this day and age. but I think Bruce Springsteen is still cooler being really the only musician to actually stand up for the Dixie Chicks back when the whole 911/Irag thing hit the fan.
All the other actor/musician darlings were to afraid of the possible negative publicity and monetary damages to their careers to actually speak out against this rediculous war and act of revenge against innocent people. Maybe that's why he is "The Boss"...and I never liked his music, but The Rising was and always will be a great record. So whatever those guys are doing is a lot better than sitting on the sidelines watching the action. Cheers to them!

I want to work for your organization. Few people in the world are doing as much. Thank you for all your contributions in the world...John Lennon would be proud.

I never, ever post but feel I need to for this.
This is in response to comments 1 & 2. I have been a huge U2 fan since the early 80's. I own every cd, every book, every write up & just about every poster. If you would research the band you would know that not only Bono but the rest of the band as well donate their money (so much so that Bono almost went broke in doing so)& themselves to anyone that needs it.
For a time, I thought that Bono should have stuck with music & left politics out but where would the people he has helped be then?
ROCK ON U2

As for picture 7, Larry should know better.
As a New Yorker, it kills me to admit that New York was in fact NOT the first U.S. city in which U2 played. That honor belongs to Boston.

Today a young girl's body was found. She was murdered by a stranger who killed her for no reason. So much evil in this world! Then, you read about someone like Bono, and see the goodness in his heart that is so real. I love and adore that man. May God continue to bless him.
Lourdesat 6-07-2007
These famous groups /actors activities are great because they use their fame to create awareness and inspire others. Even if they do not contribute with their $$, they have already made millions cooperate.
However, I believe they have to move a step further. The Big Companies are stopping development of renewable to maintain a centralized control of world energy sources, hence control money, thus POVERTY. Take way the control by helping new visionaries establish sustainable programs in the whole world. That action alone may speed the change in just one generation!
Thanks, Bono! Thanks Bob! Now focus on solutions!

Just another good deed done by the greatest band in the entire world. These guys are just too awesome. I respect someone who gives back and they do just that. It's too bad more people don't have the same true concern and great hearts that this band does. And to anyone that is condemning them, my question is this......what have you done today to support a great cause or to help someone in need ?? God Bless U2 and all that help the less fortunate in this world, because in the end, that is what really matters !!! Sherrie Pizzo, USA
